Fine. The cat may have won more fights than I have  but it doesn’t matter how many fights one wins, it really comes down to who wins the war. I’m confident that I’ve won the war.

Penny’s scratching has been an issue for me in the past. She’s torn up the leaves on my little palm tree, scratched up one of the couches and has done quite a number to my arms. In preparation for our new (expensive) couch, I’ve decided to teach her who’s boss. I bought softpaws.

Alright, so my first attempt at applying the caps ended with a gash across my cheek and I only managed to clip 2 claws. I had to leave this one to the professionals. She went to the vet tonight et voila:

They seem to be working, although it has only been a few hours. These softpaws may be the greatest invention ever. My couch may owe it’s life to them.

aww brutal Ivana, now you have to spend all that money each time at the vet. Guess that’s the price you pay for nice furniture and a crazy (but loveable) cat.

I may need some of them myself!

    Are they like veneers?

I’ve never heard of this before, but it’s a good idea! And it looks like P has nicely painted nails or something, haha. Now, is this something you have to keep getting done, or is behavior a component where she will just learn not to do it? How does it work long term, is what I’m asking, haha.

Sorry for being absent, I’ve been dealing with some gross bronchial thing and am just starting to get back to normal (I hope!).

I like to think of Miss. P’s green nails as fake nails that ladies sport. They last 4-6 weeks and then we’ll need to get another set applied (we’ve got hot pink ones lined up next).

The beauty of these is that she doesn’t even notice she’s got them on (other than when the vet tech applies them, then she’s very angry), she scratches like she normal would, grips the carpet like she did before except now it doesn’t ruin anything. Great alternative to declawing.

The hope is that in the future, she’d be used to the application process that I can start applying them myself.
