Oh how I dislike New Years. Why is it even a holiday? Everything seems so planned and silly. As someone who plans out everything in advance, I don’t like the countdown to screams, champagne or a kiss, I’d prefer to do it all before midnight to throw everyone for a loop. Ah well, fortunately it has come and gone and I enjoyed my quiet evening at home with boy, good food, P, Manacala and Arrested Development. As per usual, I like to reflect on 2008 and make plans for 2009…
2008 was great! I traveled to NYC and Newfoundland, took my first trip to Kingston, ON (best Indian food ever), trekked over to Ottawa over Thanksgiving and enjoyed the sights. I moved out! Finally! It’s been about 4 months and I don’t regret it one bit. My independence is back, I’m responsible again and I don’t have to answer to anyone. Ahh, relief. I adopted a kitten, named Penelope (or P, Penniwinkle, Pencicle, Penners) and she’s growing so fast. I’ve worked on my career and have set a few goals for myself in the office over the next year…hopefully they’ll come to reality soon enough.
What’s in store for 2009?
- learn to dive – sad but true, I have no idea how to dive. I had a traumatic moment as a child that involved a cannonball and a comment like, “that was the biggest wave ever”. I most likely took it the wrong way and have since only jumped into the water via pencil dive.
- gym it up – everyone says I want to lose 20lbs and caves 2 weeks into the year. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with the gym for the past 2 years and go more than not. I just want to make it a priority and find a routine that works for me and challenges me instead of sticking to the same thing every visit.
- be healthy – another common change. I’m not dieting, I just want to make a change in my lifestyle that will include healthier foods. I’ve come to the realization that crappy foods (such as my beloved Cheetos) make me feel crappy. Next time I’m down in the dumps, I want to make an effort to grab an apple instead of a cupcake.
- read more! Self explanatory.
- No more muffins from the office “restaurant”! I’m giving them up. They seem to be deep friend, which can’t be good for anyone.
Here’s to feeling fine in 09.
